How can I sell gift vouchers?

Use the Promote section to sell gift cards which automatically generate voucher or coupon codes.

Written by Rhio

Selling a gift voucher which generates an automatic voucher code is an effortless way to boost your sales. It's also a great way to grow your customers, as people can share the magic of your events with their community.

You can create vouchers in the Promote section of your Ticket Tailor dashboard. Next, ensure that each gift voucher template is linked to a corresponding product to enable proper functionality and visibility. You can then upsell them in your event, or add them to your Store.

💡 If you are looking for how to add other types of promotional codes to Ticket Tailor, check out the articles: How to create discount codes and How to add custom voucher codes.

How to sell gift vouchers

Step 1: Create your 'gift voucher template'

💡 A gift voucher template sets the conditions of the voucher you'll be selling to your customers.

  • Head to Promote and click on Voucher codes in the left-hand menu.

  • Select the tab called Gift vouchers.

  • Next, click the button called Create template.

  • Fill in the details about the voucher you want to sell, including the price and the validity.

  • When you're done, click Create gift voucher template.

  • To change the appearance of your gift voucher, click the Customise button.

    • You can change the colour and the image that appears on the voucher.

Step 2: Sell your voucher using a 'linked product'

Now you've created your template, you need to create a linked product before you can sell it to your customers.

Linking a gift voucher to a product lets you set the conditions of sale (e.g. price and where you want it to be shown to your buyers).

  • Click on the gift voucher template you've created (if you've just created it, it will already be open).

  • Click the button to Add a linked product to create a linked product to sell your vouchers.

  • Enter a name and price for your voucher as you want it to appear on your checkout. These fields will be pre-populated if you're following this process.

  • Upload a picture and add a description if you wish.

  • Select how many gift vouchers you'd like to sell by adjusting the quantity.

  • The Fulfilment and Gift voucher dropdown will be pre-populated for you.

  • Use the checkboxes to select where you want to sell your voucher - either as an upsell with your events, in your Store, or both.

  • When you're done, click Create product.

Step 3: Customise the gift voucher email that gets sent to your buyer

  • From the Ticket Tailor dashboard, select Settings, then Email templates.

  • Select the tab for Gift vouchers, then click the Edit button.

  • Here, you can edit your Gift voucher confirmation email.

    • Use the formatting buttons to bold or italicise certain parts of text, insert images, and turn text into links.

  • Use the people icon to add 'placeholder' content to your email. These can be used to automatically place some buyer details, or order details, into the Gift voucher order confirmation email.

Redemption tips for gift vouchers and voucher codes

  • When you've created at least one voucher code (a Promo voucher code, Gift voucher, or Refund voucher code), a box saying Use promo, credit or voucher code will automatically appear on the checkout form for all of your applicable events.

  • Multiple voucher codes can be used in the same order.

  • Once a voucher code has been used, it will be crossed out of the batch on the relevant tab of the Voucher codes page.

  • You can see which ticket buyer has used a voucher, as it'll show against their order on the Orders page.

  • You can include voucher code information in your line item report when you export your order information.

Troubleshooting issues with customer's gift vouchers

If your customer's codes aren't working, please check the following:

  • Voucher codes are case-sensitive. Please check that your buyer is using the correct code.

  • Check that your voucher code can be used for the event they are trying to book by following the below steps:

    • Go to Events.

    • Select your event, then Edit event and tickets and scroll down to the Advanced settings area.

    • You'll see a list of voucher code types. Make sure the relevant checkbox is selected for your voucher code to work.

💡 Things to note

  • Your gift voucher will now be on sale wherever you've chosen to sell your products.

  • When customers buy a gift voucher their order will appear on the Orders page, and their voucher code will appear in your gift voucher template under Voucher codes.

  • Selling a gift voucher as a linked product will cost 1 usage/PAYG fee per 1 sold product.

  • When a voucher code is redeemed, the ticket is still seen as sold and will incur 1 usage/PAYG fee per ticket or product as per our usual fees.

  • If you can't see the option to edit your gift voucher emails, this is because you're using an older version of confirmation emails. Contact Customer Support to add the new Event confirmation emails to your account.

  • You can't currently sell custom gift voucher codes via Ticket Tailor. You can sell a gift voucher as a product with auto-generated codes, or you can sell custom gift voucher codes using another platform and import them into Ticket Tailor.

  • You can't send a voucher to a specific email address - it will be emailed to the buyer who can forward it or print it for their recipient.
