How to create discount codes

This help article explains how to create and track discount codes that can be used against any of your events.

Written by Jonny White

Discount codes allow you to offer a reduced cost for your standard ticket prices. Create a discount code and share it with your desired customers. When they enter that code at checkout they will receive the discount you specify on the ticket types it is assigned to.

💡 Discount codes apply per ticket. Other promotional tools include: voucher codes, which offer a discount on the total order amount, gift vouchers, date-limited discounts, and members discounts.

Creating discount codes

  • From the Promote section of your dashboard, choose Discount codes from the side menu.

  • Click the Create discount code button.

  • In the pop-up window, give your discount a Name (for your reference).

  • Under the heading How to activate this discount? the option By entering a code should already be selected - keep this selected.

  • Add a Discount code (for your attendees to use at checkout).

  • Under the heading How to discount choose the type of discount you want to give.

    • You can set your discount code as a fixed amount or percentage discount.

    • In the Face value discount and Booking fee discount boxes, you can choose to take money off either the ticket cost, the booking fee (should you have created one), or both.

    • If you want your discount code to become invalid at a set date and time, select the check box which says Expire at a set date and time. Then, enter the date and time at which you don't want your discount code to be used by ticket buyers.

    • If you want to limit the redemptions of your discount code, select the check box and enter the number of redemptions you'd like.

  • Click Save discount code.

  • After saving, you can assign the code to the ticket types or products using the checkboxes.

  • Now your buyers can enter their code at the checkout, (located above the checkout details, and under their order summary)!

    • Using the codes you just created, they'll click Use promo, credit or voucher code, enter their code, and click Apply to see the discount applied to their order.

    • The form will remember and pre-fill the last code they entered, making it easier to try different codes or reapply a code if needed.

💡 Things to note

  • You can edit and/or delete your code at any time to invalidate it.

  • Tickets issued with a 100% discount code applied are considered 'free tickets' and will not incur a service fee.

  • Discount codes are calculated on the total ticket price. They are calculated on the pre-tax ticket price, with any external taxes added afterwards.

  • Each ticket type in your basket can only have one discount code applied to it.

    • You can apply more than one discount code in a single order, but not to the same item. In other words, an individual ticket or product can't be discounted twice.

    • When you apply a discount code to a ticket type, it applies to all quantities of that ticket type in your basket. For example, if you have two "General Admission" tickets and apply a 10% discount code, both tickets will be discounted.

  • Redemptions for a discount code are tracked based the number of times a code has been added to a basket, not just once the code is used and the order is complete.

  • Discount codes can only be adjusted per ticket type; there's currently no option to set how many tickets of the same type a discount code will apply to. This means that while you can set a discount code to apply to a specific ticket type, if a customer decides to purchase multiple tickets of that type, the discount will apply to all of them.
