How do I set up a PayPal account?

You'll need to sign up directly on PayPal's website.

If you're selling event tickets with Ticket Tailor, connecting PayPal as your payment processor only takes a few minutes. Once set up, you’ll receive money from ticket sales directly into PayPal, giving you control over when to withdraw or use the funds.

How to get started with PayPal

  • You can use either a Personal or Business PayPal account with Ticket Tailor. However, if you plan to sell tickets frequently or want access to additional tools like Buy Now, Pay Later, a Business account is recommended.

  • A PayPal business account unlocks Buy Now, Pay Later options in eligible markets, plus offers more flexible dispute and reporting tools. It's best suited for ongoing or higher-volume ticket sales.

Verify your PayPal account

  • Verify your PayPal account from the Confirm your Identity page.

  • Before you start taking payments, PayPal may ask you to complete verification. Doing this early helps prevent payout delays and ensures smooth processing during busy sales periods.

  • PayPal will typically ask for a copy of your government-issued ID, and a proof of address issued within the past 12 months.

  • You can take photos of them with your phone and upload them to PayPal directly.

  • PayPal usually reviews your documents within 2 working days.

  • If you're using a new PayPal account, you might find that PayPal will hold the initial payments you receive for up to 21 days. (This is a common industry practice to cover potential complaints, and is ultimately decided by PayPal).

  • If you want to review payments that are on hold from your Ticket Tailor Box office sales, log in to your PayPal account and click Know your options under your PayPal balance.

  • As you start to build a positive selling history with PayPal and confirm your identity, you should get access to your money faster.

What you need to verify my payment account:

Business Information

  • Legal business or organisation name

  • Business type (e.g. sole trader, charity, company)

  • Registered business address

  • Business contact details

Identity Verification

  • Government-issued photo ID for the account owner

  • Home address and date of birth

  • ID for any additional authorised users (if applicable)

Financial Verification

  • Linked and confirmed bank account

  • Optional: linked debit or credit card

  • PayPal may request recent bank statements for compliance

Beneficial Owner Details

(Required for some business types)

  • Names and details of individuals who own or control the business

  • Identification documents for each person

Website or Activity Details

  • Description of what you sell (e.g. event ticketing)

  • Typical ticket price and expected monthly volume

Additional Documentation (If Requested)

  • Proof of business registration or charity status

  • Recent document confirming business address and/or clarification about your business model if flagged

Connect your PayPal account to Ticket Tailor to take payments

  • Go to your Box office Settings, then Payment systems.

  • Select More options including PayPal, Square and offline payments.

  • Click Connect a PayPal account.

  • Log in to PayPal when prompted and select Agree and Connect.

  • Save your settings.

  • PayPal charges standard transaction fees (percentage + fixed fee) on top of your Ticket Tailor fees.

  • New or unverified PayPal accounts may experience temporary payout holds until they're verified.

  • PayPal Business accounts unlock features like Buy Now, Pay Later in supported markets (currently US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, and Australia).
