What is a transaction ID?

A transaction ID will appear on orders taken via Stripe, PayPal or Square.

Whenever a payment is made on Ticket Tailor, a transaction ID helps identify and trace it. Think of it like a receipt number, but for your payment provider. These are especially useful for tracking payments, resolving disputes, or cross-checking with your payment provider (like Stripe or PayPal).

Where do transaction IDs come from?

Transaction IDs are automatically created by your payment provider during checkout. Depending on your setup, they’ll look slightly different:

  • Stripe: You’ll see a ‘payment intent’ ID (e.g. pi_1XYZ123), and if one is present, it’s clickable so you can jump straight to the payment in your Stripe dashboard.

  • PayPal and Square: These show order or transaction IDs generated by the provider.

  • Offline payments or zero-cost orders: These may not have a transaction ID, as no online payment took place.

  • Transferred orders: These will show the transaction ID from the original order.

You can also manually add a transaction ID for:

  • Operator payments: Either during checkout or when confirming payment in your dashboard/API.

Where can I see transaction IDs?

You’ll spot transaction IDs in a few places across Ticket Tailor:

  • In an Order: Displayed alongside payment info - but if one isn’t available, we simply leave it blank (no errors, no confusion).

  • Email notifications: If a transaction ID exists, it will appear in the order summary email.

  • Operator payment orders: These show as, for example, OPERATOR (£10.00 from tx ABC123) or just OPERATOR (£10.00) if you left the optional transaction ID blank.

What happens if there isn’t a transaction ID?

Don’t worry - Ticket Tailor is built to handle this. If a transaction ID is missing, we’ll just skip it in the Order details or emails. You’ll still see all the relevant order info, just without the reference.
