How can I set a sales tax or VAT rate per ticket type?

Ticket Tailor applies one sales tax or VAT rate per event. Here's a simple workaround if you need to apply different rates to different ticket types.

Ticket Tailor applies one sales tax or VAT rate per event. It's not currently possible to set line item tax rates, such as different tax rates for individual ticket types within the same event, or different tax rates for tickets and products.

If you need to apply different rates to different ticket types, there's a simple workaround: Set a flat ticket price that already has your required tax rate baked in, rather than using Ticket Tailor's sales tax or VAT settings. This way, each ticket type can effectively reflect a different rate through its pricing.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Work out your net price (the amount you want to receive after tax)

  2. Multiply that figure by your tax rate multiplier to get your gross ticket price (e.g. Ticket price x 1.20 for 20%)

  3. Enter that as the total ticket price in Ticket Tailor

  4. Important: Make sure your box office tax rate is set to 0 to avoid tax being applied twice

Using this method, the tax accounting side of things needs to be handled outside of Ticket Tailor. Make sure your accountant knows which ticket types are being sold at which rate, so they can record sales correctly.
